The Piciformes Taxon Advisory Group has developed an 'Education Packet' (in pdf format) dedicated to grades K-4. This packet is 27 pages total and contains an instructor's teaching guide, student exercises and projects, and definitions. The entire packet should dedicate 5-6 hours of classroom time and is designed not only to educate students about Piciformes and their niche in the natural world, but also encourages students in hand-eye coordination, artistry, research skills, and public speaking.
