Nashville Zoo During the Winter Months

Most of our animals adapt to Nashville's climate. Some (cougars, Bengal tigers, zebras, eland, red pandas) are often more active during our cooler months. However, our primates and some bird species don't have the ability to adjust to cooler conditions and must stay inside. Here's a gauge for your visit.

Bengal Tiger

40 to 50 Degrees

When conditions are in this temerature range, our keepers will look at other conditions: Is it sunny? Is there a cold or warm wind? How old is the animal? These conditions will determine if and how long African wild dogs, apes, monkeys, giraffes, tropical birds (including lorikeet) and bongos will be outside.

Below 40 Degrees

In addition to African wild dogs, apes, monkeys, giraffes, tropical birds and bongos, some of these animals may be inside or have accesss to their inside areas during the day: red river hogs, clouded leopards, other birds and elephants.

Wild Animal Carousel

During the cooler months, the Zoo will make daily decisions about operating the carousel. Please check at the ticket booth about ride availability.
