Counselor In Training (CIT) Program

Are you 15-17 years of age and seeking a fun and exciting volunteer opportunity this summer? Consider volunteering as a Summer Camp Counselor in Training. The Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is designed for teens who exhibit a strong desire to learn and teach others about the natural world while gaining valuable volunteer experience.

CIT’s will work alongside Summer Camp Staff to help:

  • Monitor groups of children (ages 5 to 10)
  • Lead craft activities
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up
  • Supervise games
  • Help with other fun camp activities

All the while:

  • Gaining knowledge of wildlife and zoo careers
  • Working with children in a classroom setting
  • Building public speaking and leadership skills
  • Completing volunteer service hours
  • Spending your summer volunteering outdoors at a wild and fun animal park!

Choose to volunteer two to four full camp weeks:
June Weeks
June 2-6
June 9-13
June 16-20
June 23-27

July Weeks
July 7-11
July 14-18
July 21-25
July 28-Aug. 1

CIT volunteers must be able to commit to at least two full weeks of summer camp Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and attend one mandatory orientation,May 31, 2014 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Nashville Zoo volunteers should be prepared to work outdoors in the summer and have fun!

Application Process
CIT candidates must submit one completed packet with application, typed Essay and 2 Recommendation Forms time stamped no later than April 18, 2014.
