    Join the Zoo in celebrating Earth Day on April 25!

    The Zoo's fourth annual Party for the Planet event will include games, activities, special keeper talks, and friends from local conservation organizations. 

     

    Spring Into Action!

    Students of all ages are encouraged to join Nashville Zoo this spring for the Spring Into Action conservation campaign contest! Leading up to the Zoo’s annual Party for the Planet event and Earth Day, classrooms in Metro Nashville, as well as Cheatham, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Wilson and Williamson Counties, are encouraged to come together and take action to save wildlife both here in Tennessee and around the world.

    Plan a project around one of four conservation campaigns to make an impact on a threatened species. The winning project in each age group will receive a FREE field trip to the Zoo! Learn more about the contest or sign up your classroom!

    Interactive Experiences

    Festival Field
    9am - 2pm | Festival Field

    The Zoo's Festival Field will be filled with fun activities and games from the Zoo docents and volunteers. Plus, our friends from local organizations will be onsite to share tips about living green and how to become involved.

     
    Green Leaves
    9am - 2pm | Festival Field

    In the festival field, you will find leaves with conservation actions on them! Complete the activity and share on social media with #nzgreenteam

     
    Green Team Activity Book
    9am - 2pm | Zoo-wide

    Pick up your Green Team Activity Book at the ticket booth, complete the activities throughout the zoo, and return when finished for a fun prize!

     
    Native Plant Gardening
    10am - 12pm | Barn at the Historic Home

    Come help Nashville Zoo grow by planting species native to Tennessee in our garden at the Historic Home.

    Recycled Art Contest

    9am - 2pm | Festival Field

    Enter the Recycled Art Contest for a chance to win a free Zoo Membership. Art pieces will be displayed at the Zoo during Party for the Planet and judged by a panel made up from members of local organizations. The contest will be divided into three age categories: PreK - 2nd Grade; 3rd-6th Grade; 7th-12th Grade. Three winners in each category will receive the following prizes:

    • 1st - Dual Membership
    • 2nd - Four Pack of Zoo tickets with a Parking Pass
    • 3rd - Two Pack of Zoo Tickets with a Parking Pass

    One artwork submission per person. All artwork cannot be larger than 12inches x 12inches square. All artwork must be submitted at the Croft Center between 9am - 4pm April 18-21 to be eligible. 

    New for 2019! TIGER THEME: all artwork submitted should be related to tigers.

    Pre-registration required. Turn your recycling into artwork!

  • Writers for Rhinos

    Nashville Zoo

    Join talented songwriters and some of your favorite animals for a unique, family-friendly songwriters' round at Nashville Zoo on Thursday, April 25 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm and help fundraise for rhino conservation!

    Writers for Rhinos features acoustic performances by Grammy-nominated songwriters with chart-topping songs, appearances by the Zoo's ambassador animals, complimentary drinks, and more. 

    Featured Songwriters

    • JT Harding, who co-wrote Uncle Kracker's "Smile" plus songs for other top country music acts.  
    • Trent Harmon, American Idol winner
    • Jimmy Robbins, who has written 8 number one singles, including "We Were Us" by Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert.
    • Jonathan Singleton, co-writer for "Watching Airplanes" by Gary Allan, "Why Don't We Just Dance" by Josh Turner, and more.

    Ticket Types

    • General Admission - $20 Includes 2 tickets for alcoholic drinks or mocktails (additional beverages available for purchase).

  • Gardening Class

    Grassmere Historic Home & Farm

    Nashville Zoo and the Davidson County Master Gardeners are hosting gardening classes on Saturdays this April. The informal sessions cover a variety of topics, including composting and organic gardening. The last class will help plant a children's garden. 

    Spring gardening classes are free with Zoo admission and take place at from 11am - 12pm at the Grassmere Historic Farm gardens located behind the home. Master Gardeners leading the session will answer guests’ questions and provide handouts and other helpful items.

    • April 13: Can You Identify That Plant?
    • April 27: Culinary and Medicinal Herbs
    • May 4: Planting Seeds in the Children's Garden

    The award-winning Davidson County Master Gardeners are responsible for the complete restoration of the Grassmere Historic Home’s gardens and provide the manpower, resources and expertise to keep the areas around the historic home both beautiful and bountiful.

  • Autism Awareness Day

    NASHVILLE ZOO’S ANNUAL AUTISM AWARENESS DAY SET FOR APRIL 28!

    Nashville Zoo will hold its annual Autism Awareness Day on Sunday, April 28.

    Held in partnership with Vanderbilt Kennedy Center’s Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD), Autism Awareness Day is included with Zoo admission or membership and offers family-oriented animal experiences and activities throughout the Zoo. Guests can participate in a Zoo-wide scavenger hunt or sensory tour and close encounters with animals along the Zoo's trails.

    Nashville Zoo has worked with TRIAD to develop tools and supports to enhance a Zoo visit for families with children on the autism spectrum. Prepare for a visit to Nashville Zoo with these planning materials, such as visual schedules, Zoo map with quiet areas, and social stories about Zoo experiences.   • Meet Me at the Zoo: Star Wars

    May the 4th be with Nashville Zoo as we welcome visitors from a galaxy far far away. This installment of Meet Me at the Zoo will feature Star Wars characters who will be available for photos and to meet their adventurous fans beginning at 10am. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters from the Star Wars movies. 

    GAMES & ACTIVITIES

    Kids are invited to participate in the Zoo’s Jedi Training Camp, featuring games and activities built to test their knowledge of the Force. Event activities take place from 10am to 3pm.

    MEET AND GREET

    Character meet and greets will begin at 10am until 12pm and resume at 1pm through 3pm. Characters will greet guests on first come, first serve basis. We cannot guarantee a one-on-one meet and greet for each guest, but do our best to accommodate the most families as possible within the characters’ allotted time. To maximize your chances of meeting the featured character(s), plan to arrive early to get a spot in line. Zoo staff will monitor the line and communicate to guests when the line exceeds character availability.

    Meet Me at the Zoo is an event series for Zoo visitors that offers special activities and character meet and greets. These events are included with general Zoo admission and Nashville Zoo membership. Check our website for other Meet Me at the Zoo dates.

  • Zoovie Night

    Join us for a fun family night under the stars!

    Zoovie Nights include games, inflatables, music, and after-hours access to the carousel and zip line! When the sun goes down the evening’s feature film will play on a large inflatable screen, so pack a blanket and head to the Zoo!
