Nashville Zoo will be hosting a program on Feb. 12 from 11am-1pm for those who love birds and are interested in learning more about the Great Backyard Bird Count, how you can participate, and the basic skills for successful bird counting.

Spend some time along the Zoo trails practicing bird counting using birding identification tools, learn about the Zoo’s global bird conservation projects, and listen to a presentation from Cyndi Routledge, master hummingbird bander from Southeastern Avian Research.

Participation in the program is included with zoo admission.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a citizen science project where people from around the world count birds for 15 minutes a day from February 17-20. The data you collect is used to assist researchers in tracking bird migrations and getting population counts of different species. In 2016, there were over 160,000 participants that helped count nearly 6,000 species of birds. Learn more about how to join the fun.
