Zoo Camps

Nashville Zoo currently offers camp opportunities for members and the community. 

Each year Nashville Zoo offers ten exciting weeks of summer camp for youth ages 4 through 14! Zooper Heroes Camp is a day camp designed specifically for children with special needs that benefit from additional support. Veterinary Camp is a two-day fall break camp for teens interested in pursuing a career in zoo veterinary science.

 

Summer Camps

Campers ages 4 to 14 can join us for day camps full of Zoo favorites and new adventures. All camps incorporate animal trail exploration, games, hands-on activities and up-close animal encounters.

Most camps run from 9am to 3pm each day, with before-care available starting at 7:30am and after-care available until 5:30pm for an extra fee.

Registration will open for members February 21 around 10am, and for non-members on March 1.

2018 Camp Offerings

Creature Features - Half-Day Camp - SOLD OUT

This mini-camp is designed for first-time campers.

Recommended for 4-5 year olds who have not yet attended Kindergarten. If you have 5 year old who has not yet attended Kindergarten, but you feel that he would thrive in a full-day camp environment, you are welcome to register for the 5-6 year old full-day camp instead. *

What makes a bird a bird and a mammal a mammal? Explore fur, feathers, and scales through zoo hikes, hands-on activities, and up-close animal encounters to discover how the animal kingdom is organized. Find out what makes us different, and what we all have in common in this shortened program for our youngest campers.

Lunchtime is not included, but kids are encouraged to bring a snack. After-care is not available for this camp.

Animal Olympics - SOLD OUT

Can you leap like a lemur? Swing like a Spider Monkey? Learn about the animal athletes of the Nashville Zoo through zoo hikes, hands-on activities, and up-close animal encounters. Find out who the gold medal winners are in the animal kingdom and what makes them champions.

Grossology 

Join us as we learn all about Zoo Goo! As budding grossologists, we will explore ways animals are slimy, gross, and downright disgusting, all in the name of survival. Be prepared to go from "Eww" to "Aww" in this engrossing adventure as we go on zoo hikes, participate in hands-on activities, have up-close animal encounters, and even conduct our own yucky experiments.

Zootastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Did you know that Nashville Zoo is home to our very own unicorns and dragons? With a little imagination, we can find all sorts of fantastic beasts around us! Learn how we take care of these magical creatures and discover what makes them Zootastic! Wands at the ready as we go on zoo hikes, participate in hands-on activities and have up-close animal encounters. Though we may not see any nifflers or demiguise, we are sure to make Newt Scamander proud!

The Great Zoo Detective - SOLD OUT

There is a great mystery surrounding Nashville Zoo and we need your help. As part of our elite crew of zoo sleuths you will learn about animal investigation to help examine the crime scene, uncover animal clues and help bring order back to the zoo. Animal encounters, trail exploration, games and more round out this week of undercover operations.

Project Globe - Grow, Learn and Observe to Benefit Earth - SOLD OUT

Protecting our planet starts with us. Understand and explore human impact on our changing world and ways you can represent GLOBE in your community. Campers will go behind-the-scenes and learn about Nashville Zoo's local and global conservation projects involving clouded leopards, giant anteaters, rhinoceros hornbills and more! Special animal encounters, hands-on activities and games wrap-up this one-of-a-kind experience. All proceeds from Project GLOBE will directly benefit Nashville Zoo's conservation projects.

Zooper Heroes Camp: Defenders of the Zooniverse - SOLD OUT

This is a day camp offered to children with special needs. Campers will meet animals in the classroom, visit exhibits throughout the Zoo, make crafts, and play games to connect information discussed in the classroom with the animal kingdom. 

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: uncover the secret strategies animals employ to keep themselves safe from danger. Don your capes as we explore defense mechanisms found throughout the Zooniverse with zoo hikes, hands-on activities, and up-close animal encounters. Quills, claws, and camouflage, are no match for these predator villains!

Nashville Zoo has been working with Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) to form the structure of the camp. Supports will be included for campers throughout the day such as a visual schedule, visual supports, first/then boards, quiet areas, and choice boards.

Camp Extras

Before-care is open from 7:30 - 8:45am, and costs $50/week.

Campers generally spend this time indoors playing board games, coloring, etc.

Can be purchased separately from your camp registration.

After-care is open from 3:15 - 5:30pm, and is $50/week.

After-care campers may participate in indoor games or if weather permits, go outside to an exhibit or the jungle gym.

Can be purchased separately from your camp registration.

Campers are encouraged to wear their summer camp t-shirt each day of camp.

Having an extra on-hand can be helpful.

Shirts are $8 each and can be purchased separately from your registration prior to April 30.
