Zoo Camps

Nashville Zoo currently offers camp opportunities for members and the community. 

Each year Nashville Zoo offers eight exciting weeks of summer camp for youth ages 4 through 14! Zooper Heroes Camp is a day camp designed specifically for children with special needs that benefit from additional support. Veterinary Camp is a two-day fall break camp for teens interested in pursuing a career in zoo veterinary science.




Summer Camps

Nashville Zoo's Summer Camps have been completely redesigned for 2016! Summer Camp is expanding to include campers ages 4 to 14 with exciting camps for each age group offered for various weeks throughout the summer months.

Most camps run from 9am to 3pm each day, with before-care available starting at 7:30am and after-care available until 5:30pm for an extra fee.

Registration will open for members February 24 around 10am, and for non-members on March 3.

Camp Offerings

Animal Olympics - Half-Day Camp

Recommended for 4-5 year olds who have not yet attended Kindergarten. If you have 5 year old who has not yet attended Kindergarten, but you feel that he would thrive in a full-day camp environment, you are welcome to register for the 5-6 year old full-day camp instead. *

Animal Champions are all around us. The Zoo's littlest campers will enjoy a half-day camp experience adapted from the full-length Animal Olympics camp, learning about the strongest, fastest and tallest of animals!

Each day of camp includes: visiting an animal exhibit, special animal encounters, crafts, and time at the jungle gym. Lunchtime is not included, but kids are encouraged to bring a snack. After-care is not available for this camp.

Animal Olympics

Are you swift like a springbok, as strong as a tiger or as observant as an owl? Learn about different champions among the animal world through zoo hikes, games, crafts and special animal encounters.

Creature Features

We are mammals, and kangaroos, goats and gibbons are too! So what do we all have in common? Become a scientist as you explore what makes a frog an amphibian, what makes a skink a reptile and more!

We Built a Zoo

The Nashville Zoo is growing WILD these days! What does it take to run a zoo? How would you design an exhibit? What animals would you house in your zoo? Learn the ins and outs of the zoo world and by the end of the week put the pieces together as you design your own zoo!

EcoExplorer

Explore the different continents as you learn about the unique ecosystems and the inhabitants that live there. You won’t need a passport for this adventure!

Camp Zoovivor

It is a race against time to save your species from extinction! Learn about what it takes to survive as an animal in the wilderness and pick up a few survival skills of your own.

Conservation Camp

Campers will learn about the conservation projects Nashville Zoo is involved in around the world. Includes guest speakers, behind-the-scene tours and animal encounters. Campers will learn how they can play a role in conservation here at home and around the world. All proceeds from this camp will go directly to Nashville Zoo’s conservation projects!

Zooper Heroes Camp is a day camp offered to children with special needs who will benefit from having individual support from a parent or professional. Campers will meet animals in the classroom, visit exhibits throughout the Zoo, make crafts, and play games to connect information discussed in the classroom with the animal kingdom. Campers are asked to have an adult with them each day of camp, with no additional cost for the adult. The adult can be a parent, guardian, or paraprofessional.

Nashville Zoo has been working with Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) to form the structure of the camp. Supports will be included for campers throughout the day such as a visual schedule, visual supports, first/then boards, quiet areas, and choice boards.

Camp Extras

Before-care is open from 7:30 - 8:45am, and costs $50/week.

Campers generally spend this time indoors playing board games, coloring, etc.

Can be purchased separately from your camp registration.

After-care is open from 3:15 - 5:30pm, and is $50/week.

After-care campers may participate in indoor games or if weather permits, go outside to an exhibit or the jungle gym.

Can be purchased separately from your camp registration.

Campers are encouraged to wear their summer camp t-shirt each day of camp.

Having an extra on-hand can be helpful.

Shirts are $8 each and can be purchased separately from your registration prior to April 30.



Fall Camps



Veterinary Camp (ages 15-18)

Nashville Zoo’s Veterinary Camp is a two-day camp for ages 15 to 18 scheduled during Metro Nashville Public School's Fall Break. If you have an interest in being a Veterinarian this camp is designed for you! Get an inside view on what it takes to be a zoo veterinarian. Participants learn what classes to take in school, how to restrain an animal for procedures, tour the animal clinic, check out the lab and practice blow-darting!
