Zoo Camps

Nashville Zoo currently offers camp opportunities for members and the community. 

Each year Nashville Zoo offers eight exciting weeks of summer camp for youth ages 4 through 14! Zooper Heroes Camp is a day camp designed specifically for children with special needs that benefit from additional support. Veterinary Camp is a two-day fall break camp for teens interested in pursuing a career in zoo veterinary science.

 

Summer Camps

Summer Camp is back in 2017 with new themes and new fun! Campers ages 4 to 14 can join us for day camps full of Zoo favorites and new adventures.

Most camps run from 9am to 3pm each day, with before-care available starting at 7:30am and after-care available until 5:30pm for an extra fee.

Registration will open for members February 22 around 10am, and for non-members on March 2.

Camp Offerings

Storybook Tails - Half-Day Camp

This mini-camp is designed for first-time campers.

Recommended for 4-5 year olds who have not yet attended Kindergarten. If you have 5 year old who has not yet attended Kindergarten, but you feel that he would thrive in a full-day camp environment, you are welcome to register for the 5-6 year old full-day camp instead. *

Jump in tail first as timeless children's books come to life. Children will join special characters like the Lorax, Gerald the Giraffe and Stellaluna as they explore new "tails" each day through Zoo walks, up-close animal encounters, crafts, games and more!

Lunchtime is not included, but kids are encouraged to bring a snack. After-care is not available for this camp.

Animal Sense

From what distance can a bear smell its dinner? How does an owl find its prey at night? Campers will learn how animals use their amazing senses for survival, as they practice using their own to connect to wildlife through Zoo walks, sense-sational animal encounters, crafts, games and more!

Native Navigators

From salamanders to skinks and skunks to sassafras, Tennessee is home to a rich variety of wildlife. Discover why so many different native species call Tennessee home through zoo exploration, activities, games, crafts, animal encounters and more!

Animal Oddities

Axolotl, binturong, duiker and okapi - Discover some peculiar, fascinating animals that can easily be described as unique and out of this world! Campers will explore animal oddities during Zoo walks, animal encounters, crafts, games and more!

Camp Zoovivor

Welcome to Zoovivor 2.0 - the race is back! Your species is in peril and is on the brink of extinction. This summer's expedition will present new challenges and obstacles as you work to protect the endangered!

Project Globe - Grow, Learn and Observe to Benefit Earth

Protecting our planet starts with us. Understand and explore human impact on our changing world and ways you can represent GLOBE in your community. Campers will go behind-the-scenes and learn about Nashville Zoo's local and global conservation projects involving clouded leopards, giant anteaters, rhinoceros hornbills and more! Special animal encounters, hands-on activities and games wrap-up this one-of-a-kind experience. All proceeds from Project GLOBE will directly benefit Nashville Zoo's conservation projects.

Zooper Heroes Camp is a day camp offered to children with special needs. Campers will meet animals in the classroom, visit exhibits throughout the Zoo, make crafts, and play games to connect information discussed in the classroom with the animal kingdom. 

The theme for the 2017 Zooper Heroes Camp is "Animal Sense!" Imagine a world where you could smell with your tongue or taste with your feet! Animals have amazing adaptations allowing them to survive in their environment.

Nashville Zoo has been working with Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) to form the structure of the camp. Supports will be included for campers throughout the day such as a visual schedule, visual supports, first/then boards, quiet areas, and choice boards.

Camp Extras

Before-care is open from 7:30 - 8:45am, and costs $50/week.

Campers generally spend this time indoors playing board games, coloring, etc.

Can be purchased separately from your camp registration.

After-care is open from 3:15 - 5:30pm, and is $50/week.

After-care campers may participate in indoor games or if weather permits, go outside to an exhibit or the jungle gym.

Can be purchased separately from your camp registration.

Campers are encouraged to wear their summer camp t-shirt each day of camp.

Having an extra on-hand can be helpful.

Shirts are $8 each and can be purchased separately from your registration prior to April 30.



School Break Camps

Nashville Zoo is now offering TWO fall break camps!

FALL BREAK CAMP FOR KIDS - Campers, ages 7-9, can spend a week discovering the world around them as they learn about different species through zoo exploration, hands-on activities, games, crafts and animal encounters at Native Navigators camp.

VETERINARY CAMP FOR TEENS - Teens, ages 15-18, interested in pursuing a career in veterinary sciences can shadow the Zoo's vet team during this two-day Veterinary Camp.


   
 

Veterinary Camp (ages 15-18)

Nashville Zoo’s Veterinary Camp is a two-day camp for ages 15 to 18 scheduled during Metro Nashville Public School's Fall Break. If you have an interest in being a Veterinarian this camp is designed for you! Get an inside view on what it takes to be a zoo veterinarian. Participants learn what classes to take in school, how to restrain an animal for procedures, tour the animal clinic, check out the lab and practice blow-darting!
